THE NATIVITY
Narrator: For a long time the Jews had been ruled by King Herod, who was cruel and wicked.
King Herod: I am King Herod and I am the King of the Jews.
Narrator: One day, an Angel appeared to Mary;
Angel: Hail Mary! The Lord is with you. Blessed are you among women. (Mary looked surprise)
Angel: Fear not Mary, for you have found favor with God. You shall bring forth a son and call his name Jesus.
Mary: (kneeling on the right side of the altar) But, I’m not even married.
Angel: Don’t worry, this is God’s will.
Mary: Be it done unto according to God’s word.
Narrator: Then the Angel also visited a carpenter named Joseph, who wanted to get married to Mary.
Angel: (talking to Mary and Joseph) Mary is going to have a very special baby. He will be a great King and the child of God.
Narrator: Joseph and Mary got married and lived in Nazareth. When Mary was heavy with her child, the emperor of Rome, ordered the people to go to their homeland to be counted.
Mary and Joseph: (walk & knock)
Inn Keeper: (opened the door) who are you? What do you need?
Joseph: Can we stay here?
Inn Keeper: Sorry, but there is no more room for you at the inn. But you can rest in the stable with the animals, if you want.
Narrator: That night, Marys’ baby was born in the stable. Mary put him to bed on the straw in the manger and they call him Jesus. All around were the animals – donkeys, camels, sheep and goat. They all looked at the tiny sleeping baby.
Students: (song)
Narrator: That same night, some shepherds were in a nearby field, looking after their sheep. Suddenly they saw a bright light. And an Angel appeared to them. And they were Frightened.
Angel: Don’t be afraid, I bring good news. The King you’ve been waiting for is here at last. He is lying in a manger in a stable in Bethlehem.
Shepherd 1: We must find this wonderful baby.
Shepherd 2: Come let us go and find baby Jesus.
Narrator: The shepherds hurried off to Bethlehem and found the stable. They saw Joseph and Mary with the baby Jesus. They were very excited and went away to tell everyone what had happened.
Shepherds: it is true; the son of God is born! (They all knelt down to worship the baby)
Shepherds and Angels: (song)
Narrator: Far Away in the East, some wise men saw a brilliant star and believed that the King of the Jews has been born. They made a long journey to Jerusalem and went to King Herod, and told that a baby who will be the king of the Jews has been born.
King Herod: (standing)
Three Kings: (walking towards King Herod) we’re here to look for the new King.
King Herod: Go and find this child, and when you have found let me know.
Narrator: The three King set off again after the bright star. They went to the stable and saw Jesus. They gave him rich gifts – gold, frankincense and myrrth.
Three Kings: (song)
Narrator: That night God told the three Kings in a dream not to tell King Herod about the babys’ so the three Kings did not come back to Jerusalem and went back to their homes in the Far East Because King has planned to kill the baby.
King Herod: Soldiers! Kill all the baby boys in Bethlehem.
Angel: Take Mary and the baby and go to Egypt. There you will be safe from wicked King Herod.
Narrator: Joseph and Mary set off in the dark and escaped from King Herods’ soldiers. They stayed in Egypt until King Herod was dead and went back to Nazareth and lived happily as a family.
